Lanark is a little touristy town in Scotland with a populace of around 8000, and is cosily nestled in the Clyde Valley. Which allows for beautiful scenery and Scotland's usual confused weather system. The town is home to the famous rallying family the McRaes (Jimmy, Alister and the late Colin), William Smellie the obstetrician and John Glaister the forensic scientist. Lanark is also to blame for a plethora of football stars: Robert (Rab) Douglas, Stephen McManus, Walter Ferguson Smith, Henry George Smith, Lee Adamson Miller, Douglas "Dougie" Imrie, Stephen Paul Pearson and Darren Lee Smith, Stewart Greacen.
It has been visited by many notables over the centuries including King James the II, III and the IV, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, and of course it is were William Wallace killed the Sherriff of Lanark and started the War of Independence (Inaccurately portrayed in Braveheart ). Has its own Loch and local market as well as a modernised Memorial Hall large enough to have housed several big bands over the years.
The Tearoom of my School days (vanished in the ether of time) was Daisies, close to the school and with a second hand book shop next door. Over a decade after my last visit, it had been bought over, refurbished into a biker friendly tearoom named The Wallace Tearooms.
The fresh, brightly lit décor and calming ambiance are instantly noticeable, with the tables all individually named for local folklore and events. The daily specials are advertised on the plethora of chalkboards, there's even a supply of daily newspapers as well as books and leaflets for local attractions and businesses.
They offer a range of beverages; fancy American style coffees, speciality teas, soft drinks and fizzy juice. Gluten free is catered for with the cakes and even the scones, and there's soya milk available as well.
The Tearoom being spread over two rooms is complete genius; the larger room seats 36 and is dangerously within sight of the cake display. The smaller room, designated as a family room, comfortably seats 16 and has disabled access and lots of extra space for prams and errant children. With two toilets, (one disabled), disabled parking and close proximity to the high street, its ideal for shopping trips, tourists visits and generally calorie intake. The Tearoom is also available to book for private functions and events.
The geniuses behind this enterprise are Kym and Stuart, who have displayed their love of history in the decor with posters and paintings to create an informative and interesting location to experience Lanark’s colourful past.
They also pledged to use as many local producers as possible for the fresh meals, and showcase their suppliers in their Tea Room Story Book. All the cakes are made onsite with all the meals made fresh to order. 'We make Fresh Food, not Fast Food!!'
And finally just for good measure, here's some lovely pictures of the goodies supplied. Please note I have also included a salad, though I really can't see past the treats. Well I can , but only as far as the burgers!
This place is a hidden gem, with genuinely friendly and uniquely quirky staff and a relaxed happy atmosphere. The food is varied and delicious, the salads are incredibly crisp and fresh and the burgers are amazing. The meals are a solid base for the treat of your choice, and boy is there a lot of choice!

My littlest angel enjoying a cup of tea on a day out with her gran and myself. She was so well behaved and perfectly entertained by the happy staff. She made such good friends with one that we struggled to get her to leave!
