T2: Trainspotting ~ Movie Review

I obviously led a sheltered life, I was 24 when I first watched Trainspotting and I must admit it really wasn't my cup of tea. In fact the world it portrayed seemed too far fetched and insane to be realistic, I was honestly disgusted by the adult and mature content. I never understood the themes of friendship and the love of life that many others adored it for.
Now twenty years later the cast had regrouped to bring the cult fans some new material with T2 Trainspotting. Unfortunately this was an unmissable opportunity for an Anniversary date (I did manage to sidestep the double bill!).

Bon Giovi at Lanark Memorial Hall

Well a bright spot in a traditionally dull and dreary January is a child free night of freedom, and this night surpassed all others. Pre-xmas I had chanced upon a Bon Jovi tribute band playing my local Memorial Hall (Lanark) so tickets were booked and a babysitter arranged to see Bon Giovi

I must admit with all the drama of frantic shopping and xmas prepping I almost forgot about what was going to be an outstanding night.

Castlevania: Lord of Shadows 2 ~ The Watcher

This had been bugging me for a while now, I knew that some sort of comment was required for such an anticipated game. I loved Castlevania: Lord of Shadows, but sadly felt a little let down by Lord of Shadows 2. Four years we've waited for the sequel with tempting snippets and trailers released at periodic intervals.
Last year they even went so far as to drop Mirrors of Fate on us, a tag along storyline originally for the Nintendo 3DS (Picked up on other consoles later in the year and the PC in March 2014), it followed the storyline of the descendant of Gabriel. Apparently his family were destined to be whiny, angry children hell bent on unknowingly destroying their linage (Who would have guessed?!).

John Wick ~ Movie Review

http://kinderegguk.blogspot.co.uk/2015/02/john-wick-movie-review.htmlWe've all seen the action revenge films popularised in the 80's and 90's, and the latest blockbuster to burst into life is John Wick. A talented assassin (Keanu Reeves)  with Chuck Norris style advertising ('killed 3 men in a bar with a pencil, a PENCIL!'), is out for blood when some rich young pillocks kill his dog.

[Ended] Rage Xbox 360 Competition

Well this is the month for number crunching. We passed 40,000 views, beat 1000 in one day and halfway through the month we've passed 10,000.
As a little reward to all my followers I'm going to throw some more competitions.

First up Rage Anarchy Edition.
Brand new and still sealed, this was a bonus pack released in 2011 and available by pre-order. It was the winner of more than 20 E3 awards and comes with the bonus conte

Lucy ~ Movie Review

Fresh from her role as The Black Widow, Scarlett Johansson reprises a Milla Jovovich-esq character in a re-imagining of Limitless. In short if you're looking for a kick ass female character with an intellectual plot line (and some Morgan Freeman airtime), then this ideal for your tastes.

Maleficent ~ Movie Review

http://kinderegguk.blogspot.co.uk/2014/09/maleficent-movie-review.htmlWith yet another take on a Classic, Disney has followed up the Julia Roberts version of Snow White (Mirror Mirror), with the re-imagined Sleeping Beauty; Maleficent. Its lovely to think that perhaps all these spell wielding evil-doers of our childhood were secretly misunderstood, after all; winners write the history in reality as well. However working in that logic is some what flawed if translated into reality, who really believes that ancient baddies like Attila The Hun were just looking for 'true loves kiss'.

The Expendables 3 ~ Movie Review

Summer 2014 is a great time for the action heroes, any time is really, but Expendables 3 is the highlight I was waiting for. I honestly wonder if they sat around wishing for the good old days before just deciding to go for and gather up as many of their cronies as possible.
While any action fan worth their salt looks forward to the Summer blockbusters, Expendables is a series that seems to divide the fan base

Call of Duty Ghosts Extinction ~ The Watcher

Imagine the franchise loving gamers frustration when Treyarch and Infinity Ward decided to go their separate ways. There was a small consolation of the companies taking turn about to exploit the gamers wallets with further renditions, but zombies was to be regulated to every second year. The lack of Zombie maps sent shock waves (well mild tremors), through the gaming scene. Well no more will there be a sense of a crucial 'something' missing. Infinity Ward has delightfully saw fit to take survival map to a new level with aliens. About time as far as I was concerned! I loved the first foray into zombies, but the follow ups seemed too tied up in their own glory, for me it lost its watch-ability and for some the playability.

Thor: The Dark World ~ Movie Review

Well its been a while since Thor (Chris Hemsworth)  rocked worlds in The Avengers, reigniting a love for Marvel across the generations. Harking back to the supposedly destroyed race of Dark Elves led by Malekith, now reduced to tall tales after for eons of Asgardian civilisation. However when Jane Porter (Natalie Portman)  falls through an anomaly searching for her absent Thor, she becomes infected with the Malekith's weapon of mass destruction the 'Aether'. Cue Thor's instant return to her side with tales of planetary convergence and dark matter swallowing all the nine 9 worlds.

Knights of Badassdom ~ Cinema Review

It is rare that the reality of geek-dom crosses swords with the new fashion interest of nerds. Featuring the Dungeons and Dragons expansion of LARPING, real time role playing, this new film injects humour into the hobby. In fact it leaves with a strong sense that running around woods with a foam sword, shouting about healing potions and point, might actually be absolutely awesome! For such a blatantly mid range film it has no shame in its corniness and showcases some surprising famous faces.

Sherlock Downgraded To Drivel?

I am a massive fan of the new  Sherlock series and everyone's fascination with something so piously British. My only complaints up until now had been that the series simply wasn't long enough. Now given the actors work commitments ( The HobbitStar Trek etc) and the writer Steven Moffat's 'other baby' Doctor Who, it was great to get a series this year at all. However the whole thing felt like such a drastic departure from the previous two seasons, that I was actually left wondering why they bothered.

Call of Duty Ghosts Single Player ~ The Watcher

Sometimes awaiting a pre-order game can seem like an eternity; checking the calender constantly and frequently logging in to check the progress of an on-line order. However this latest edition in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: Ghost, made little impact on my life, failing to inspire frantic postman watching. Perhaps its just got to the stage where its annual foray into the world of guns and glory is simple expected, rather than anticipated.
Released on the 5th of November, it flew under the radar of the festivities of Halloween and Fireworks (undoubtedly The Controller would disagree). It
actually resided under the letter box for a good hour before it dawned on me to check if there was any post.

We're The Millers... Mad Cap Capers ~ Cinema Review
I was lucky enough to see a free early screening of We're The Millers through Show Film First. Starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Sudeikis the film is the story of a robbed drug dealer falling on hard times and being coerced into smuggling a 'smidge' of weed from Mexico. Having great distate for happy families in general he is forced into the father role to ease border crossings. The mother role in this family falls to his neighbouring stripper (Jennifer Aniston), and his loving children are a stroppy homeless girl (Emma Roberts), and innocently gawky virgin (Will Poulter).

Pain and Gain... Muscle Madness ~ Cinema Review

A bit of a belated blog post; but on Tuesday I was lucky enough to see a free early screening of Pain and Gain through Show Film First and Paramount Pictures  (18 days before release!). Starring Mark WahlbergDwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie the film follows three bodybuilders who decide to branch out into kidnapping to realise their American Dream.
The true story of The Sun Gym Gang, is much harsher than the film shows, but considering most people would struggle to believe it is true. Micheal Bay directed, in a departure from his Transformers fame, through the minefield of comedy into the realm of bizarre reality.

Dead Rising 2 ~ The Watcher

The three year old Dead Rising 2 ( Capcom), had been owned before and much loved by the junior free roamers, but had held little appeal for the ControllerCurrently available to buy for the princely sum of £10-15, it was free to download from the 16th of August until the 31st. Giving the game another go involved some boredom, the lure of achievement points and constant badgering from fellow Xbox'ers.

The Heat...Is it a Summer Scorcher? ~ Cinema Review

Today I was lucky enough to see a free early screening of +The Heat through Show Film First (Nine days before release!). Starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy  the film revolves around the uptight, anti social arrogant, FBI agent's hunt for a elusive drug lord. Sandra Bullock meets the uncouth, opinionated, plain spoken Melissa McCarthy, and then the fire-works and laughs are meant to begin.

The Internship ~ 'Intern-esting' Cinema Review

Yesterday I was lucky enough to see a free early screening of +The Internship through Show Film First (Two days before release!). Something The Controller and myself had been looking forward to seeing since seeing the initial trailer. The hype and internet chatter surrounding this film has been quite damming touting it as Google advertising and a failed Wedding Crashers sequel.

Yes it is a film about Google (big hand clap for those that worked that one out!), but so was the 2007 filmGoogle Me and I don't remember anyone decrying it.

Man Of Steel... Is It Super?~ 3D Cinema Review

I have to start this with the embarrassing truth; I have never been a superman fan.
Uh oh busted! No I'm afraid its the awful truth. I honestly wish I could say it was something as simple as me being a closet Marvel  fan, but the Superman  franchise never really struck a chord with me. The early ones were instantly dated and the most recent one, with its bemusing premise of his offspring, I found laughable. So its fair to say I looked forward to this with all the anticipation of series 139 of  Big Brother

Black Op's 2 League Play ~ The Watcher

Today I faced a new low point in my pixelated existence, I had to check the date Black Ops 2 was released. I would like to state that this is due to post-traumatic stress disorder. The origin of my 'shell shock' stemming from years of suffering slaughtered, face-less online enemies, whilst bearing the responsibility of appeasing the Controller's irrational complains and outbursts.

God of War / Aliens: Colonial Marines ~ The Watcher

March started with an excitement able to dwarf even a mountain of Easter eggs, and yet its seems to be ending anti-climatically, with what I believe is a broken Controller. Not the console controller, though the charger cable might have seen better days, but the male figure himself. Perhaps it's the expectations of this month, or something as simple as a loose connection. It could be just the need to take a break or the software needing upgraded, not aided in any way with my moaning self suffering a cold of man-flu proportions. Let me continue in a bid to explain in a vaguely competent manner.  Needless to say; Damn selfish of an old fellow to led the squad down like this!

Dishonored ~ The Watcher

The short time period between Marches big releases, allows my Controller a little time to tidy up. We decided to finish off a few of the lingering games, which had been temporarily sidelined. Today saw the initial completion of Dishonored (Do you remember as far back as October?). It was a game I really looked forward to seeing, with a great advertising campaign; however coming out at the start of the school holidays, made it almost impossible to get engrossed in. So dusting it off today made for a nice Mothers day treat.

Tomb Raider ~ The Watcher

Well this game was a welcome Valentines pre-order (Who says romance is dead!). I have always loved Tomb Raider, the action puzzler with a supernatural twist but previous games have always been lauded/ laughed at, for their blatant sexual-ism of the character. Indeed with the ever increasing chest and dodgy viewpoints there was little  to separate her image from a Page 3 star. All this did make for an attractive package which was only enhance by the ability to unlock costume changes.  (I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that has see Miss Croft dancing about frozen landscapes wearing a fetching string bikini.)

However this game was to be different and re-invent the franchise, the trailers showed a lost girl, confused and scared. They managed to strip all the gossip column 'fakery' and get back to basics but to get Lara from that level of naivety to the gun toting character we all love was going to take more than a series of 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!'

The Watcher
My love of video games goes right back to the glory days of the Atari 2600; 2 buttons and a stick, barely 2D images and a whole lot of addiction. I loved Centipede, Indy 500 and even Tank  Pong , but it was to Mario Bros that I lost most of my free time. I spent one intense Saturday squinting at a black and white portable screen to reach level 36, calamity ensued when I took my clammy cramped hands off for dinner... My mother proceeded to switch everything off. With no ability to save the game; the soul destroying anger ensured I never played the game again, it took days for me to forgive my mother.

After the Atari, I lost my way, enjoying passing games but with no real care. Golden Eye and Mario Cart for the N64 were played, if only to soundly beat my siblings. Need for Speed also took up some time, though I was never winning any records,(and preferred to bounce the car around corners). The music was also very catchy plus the Playstation 2 made for a handy DVD player.
