Product Reviews

Anyone who knows me in the real world should be fully aware that I can't pass up a competition. So when this popped up on my Facebook I couldn't help but do a double take. A wonderful local crafter, The Crafty Raven, who makes the most stunning and intricate jewellery, I had to enter! Imagine my surprise when I actually won!

Whoop a boozy
Bzzagent review perfect for a Covid lock down tipple, Up today we have the Auchentoshan;  American Oak Single Malt .

It's been a while, but this local whisky is beautifully presented and renowned for being the only Scottish single malt distillery to triple distil its whisky. A tradition which has been ongoing since it opened in Dumbartonshire in 1823.

Insiders Felix Treats Review

My latest Insiders from the lovely people at Purina, a range of Felix treats for all you wonderful cat owners out there. Like most cat owners I have amassed more than one cat, (I'm still not quite how that happened!) and I think that these erratic members of our family deserve the best.

New Lanark Visitor Centre ~ Review

Recently I discovered a lovely opportunity on Facebook for bloggers to visit New Lanark. Naturally I signed myself up for that. As a family we are regular visitors to the World Heritage Site (admittedly we usually tramp around the grounds and walks on sunnier days complete with a picnic), the chance to see the "touristy" bits was quite exciting.
Contact with Melissa Reilly the marketing and PR officer was smooth and very helpful. My tickets were waiting for me at the front desk, along with stickers, yup I'm sold now.

My Trusty Little Sunflower Cream Review

First developed over twenty years ago by Salisbury District Hospital My Trusty was originally a moisturising cream for patients recovering from burns and plastic surgery, but works fantastically for dry skin conditions. I was send a bottle to test for 3 weeks and I must say I was very impressed with the simple packaging design.

British Eagle Advance Bicycle ~ Controller Review

When is a bike not a bike? When its the latest in a range of fantastic new space consuming hobbies. This is no exception; skinny tyres that make me think of diets with alarming panic, and wiggly handles that seem like a bizarre ode to a reindeer. This would never have been my first choice in mobility, hence this review has been flung at the feet of the Controller. As a warrior through the ages he has gallantly picked up the gauntlet and charged into battle, and here is the resulting ramblings untranslated for those with the knowledge.

The Orchard Flower Review ~ Mothers Day 2016

I was the lucky recipient of vouchers from Tesco's word of mouth campaign website The Orchard, which arrived just before Mother's Day. Perfect timing.

I promptly toddled down to Tesco to peruse the massive seasonal selection. From overflowing bundles with sparkly sticks, teddy bears and hearts down to simple bunches of Daffodils; they had the lot. A slight shame that the range is only vast at female related holidays but that's a personal viewpoint.

Bzzagent L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss Review

Bzzagent L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss Review
This campaign is for L'Oreal Casting Creme Gloss. In a rather (for me any way) dull shade of Chocolate 535

I've been dying my hair at irregular intervals for a while now so I jumped on the chance to try this brand out. I chose number 535 Chocolate in the hope that it would even out the lighter tips of my hair from a previous bleaching 6 months ago.

Nicoccino Nicotine Experience

A sample of five films of Nicoccino arrived in a over large luxury burgundy envelope, inside was a classy booklet reminiscent of old match books. Despite the booklet being the mere holder of the 5 samples, I was more impressed at the hologram on the outside. (The most realistic ones I've ever seen, think along the lines of the Chocolate Frog Cards in Harry Potter.)

The Magic Science is Flawed

Well clever old me I found a bargain in my local Pound shop (Science Worx - Crystal Magic Tree), and being an educating type of parent I decided to give it a bash. I'll admit I didn't have particularly high hopes, but the packaging looked as you would expect from a children's science project kit.

Bzzagent Optrex Eye Revive Moisture Mist Review

Now Optrex have come up with an elegant solution, an eye reviving spray that also benefits the delicate skin around the eyes.

Remington Stylist Easy Curl Review

The Remington Stylist Easy Curl (Model Number CI6219 for those in the know), retails for approximately £30.It lays claim to all the normal boasts of perfect curls, minimum effort and salon professional transformations.
Bought at my daughters behest, to bring some form to her poker straight hair, I chose this particular version because it bore no resemblance to my 90's tongs and appeared idiot proof.

Swan ST70100 Toaster Review

The Swan ST70100 Toaster is available in a range of colours to suit most kitchen décors and currently available singly for £25, the 2 slice toaster and a kettle for £45 or a 4 slice toaster and kettle for £55. With my latest purchase of classy kettle this was my 'free' toaster. Now I know I could have bought them separately in chrome for £10 less, but I'd be kicking myself if I missed out on my favourite blue!

The Swan SK13110 kettle is available in a range of colour to suit most kitchen décors and currently available singly for £19.99, with a 2 slice toaster for £45 or with a 4 slice toaster for £55. When my emergency (bought in a tea deprived panic), kettle sprung a sizeable leak, I decided that I would have to fork more than my  usual £10. My love of 'kitchen blue' mean that my choices were limited, but the reviews seemed good so it was worth the risk.

Bzzagent McCain Ready Baked Jackets Review

This campaign is for McCain Ready Baked Jacket potatoes and it involves a one voucher for a 2 pack of the microwavable baked potatoes and 5x pass along vouchers for 50p off.

Casecom CL-86 Case Controller Review

Is bigger better or just this years fashion craze? I gave up following the trends and watched from afar as gadgets and technology shrunk and expanded with the seasons. Whilst choosing a full sized computer case may seem like the last vestige of spacial luxury (or a mid 30's gentleman residing in the basement of his parental abode), there is a time and a place when nothing but the largest will suffice.

Enter the Casecom CL-86; an honest to god behemoth of a case, bought for the princely sum of £71.99 from Ebuyer and shipped in a cardboard box big enough to escape biblical floods in (and amuse 2-10 year old's for hours).

Slim Fit Crew Neck 3/4 Sleeve Top

Now who amongst us doesn't love a bargain? The January sales might start in November but they still provide a proving ground for those smart enough to bulk buy classic clothes. This time has been no exception for me, and yes I'm still grinning about my last haul!

Practical and hard wearing, the colour hasn't ran or faded at all. The sleeves make it suitable for the brisker days, to layer with shirts or cardigans, and the actual fabric is light enough for it to last into Summer (or a well heated office!).

Rocking Roku Review
With so many different Television streaming devices on the market it is hard to find one that does something different. The Roku accomplishes that in spades. Working over the internet it streams a wide variety of free and paid for channels directly to your television. Foreign channels, learning, children, radio, movies and all the big names are catered for in a small inoffensive box. Tiny enough to tuck out of side the Roku will look just as attractive nestling with your other gadgets, in fact it should replace a few of them.

Foreo Luna Mini ~ Fantastic Face Care

Being an inherent tomboy, I tend to view 'essential beauty gadgets' as little more than a consumer con. However my hormonal skin meant that drastic measures had to be taken. After hours of boredom sifting through marketing propaganda to get to the real people reviews. It was an expensive choice (that still makes me wince thinking about it!), but the Luna Mini had the most favoured reviews, and the lowest price.

Aces Laces ~ The New Fashion Accessory

For those of you whom regularly peruse my little corner of the internet, you may recall Aces Laces from a previous post (Box of OMG ~  Paradise Wildlife Park Limited Edition). For me they were the outstanding product, such a simplistic idea and yet so modern and unique.
Well when I claimed I was going to put in an order I wasn't joking, though it has taken me a while to type up this post. I could make excuses here about my hectic life, but I think we should just move to the juicy content.

The Wallace Tearoom Lanark 2013

The Tearoom of my School days (vanished in the ether of time) was Daisies; close to the school and with a second hand book shop next door. Over a decade after my last visit, it had been bought over, refurbished into a biker friendly tearoom named The Wallace Tearooms.

The fresh, brightly lit décor and calming ambiance are instantly noticeable, with the tables all individually named for local folklore and events. The daily specials are advertised on the plethora of chalkboards, there's even a supply of daily newspapers as well as books and leaflets for local attractions and businesses.

Kito 16-Piece Stoneware Dinner Set Review

I am completely at a loss as to what section to put this post under. In the end I plumped for Fashion due to the unnecessary need for ornamental crockery. Personally I believe matching crockery is a hell designed for +Christmas dinner and other such over the top occasions. The rest of the year we are all happy to munch from our chipped mismatched plates, and I'm sure many of us fondly remember our childhood individual plates from the culmination of remaining sets.
For those that don't; you lived a especially charmed abnormal life, and likely played Polo.

Skechers Bikers Hot Ticket Shoe Review

Alas with joys of gainful employment comes the search for suitable apparel, and none more essential than the material with which we clothe our feet. Some may read this and think otherwise but those would be the people who can afford to be fashionable in the workplace. In a job that involves constantly putting my 'slender' weight on my long suffering hooves, it becomes an essential trial for comfort.
Gone are the days of vainly trotting my illogical heels and comely courts to and from a desk.

Chobani Strained Yoghurt Review

Well the source for this review was different from my usual, in fact my ego requires that I claim I was head-hunted!
Earlier this month this comment from Chobani was left on one of my posts:

'We've been stalking your blog, and are loving all of your product reviews!
So, we'd love to send you our range of Chobani Strained Yoghurt – they are made with only naturally sourced ingredients and completely fat free with twice the protein of regular yoghurt.
What do you say – can we tempt you?'

Border Biscuits Strawberry & Cream Shortbread

Well hello again from the lovely world of on-line competition entering, and I'm a winner again. Yes I'm perfectly aware a braggart isn't appealing, but I really was very surprised at this win. So I have decided to turn it into a review of sorts, centering on a single product and the quite astonishing competitions that this particular company have on a regular basis.

For those that already skipped to the pictures (or found me via google), the company is indeed Border Biscuits. A previous winner of a lovely large hamper, I still marvelled at the large box of biscuits.

Comfy Camo Coat Review

With the disintegration of my last coat I was forced into making a choice from fashions latest offerings. Some of which were, to my mind, an awful choice. Finding something to suit a tall curvy woman is always a struggle, especially when the 5'10" female in question is the very wrong side of 11 stone (feel free to read 12 stone.. I'm happy lying to myself!).

Refusing to wear cropped coats or gilet style versions (Seriously, I live in Scotland its too cold.) and wanting to avoid the 90's 'Puffa jacket' quilting, my options appeared to be getting more lurid and 'quirky'. Taking the 'nod to the past' to the extreme of re-hashing previously dreadful taste and packaging it with all retro fashion faux pas possible. In the end I settled for a mid length jacket, with an all over camouflage print, a departure from my normal taste of Trespass style jackets or my trusty denim number.

Indesit 9Kg 1400rpm Washing Machine Review

When my trusty pack horse of a washing machine decided to spring a leak, I knew it was time for some radical changes. It took a lot of research but my starting point was clear; I needed a large drum and a great spin. With a household of 5 and not a lot of free time to wait for washing to dry, okay being honest here, I'm too lazy to be organised enough to cope with house work. Yup, I'm the worlds greatest procrastinator, or at least that's the medal I'm aiming for.
My last machine was a 7kg drum and although it made a dent in the pile of cast off clothing, I was looking for that magic wand that cleared everything. I did like the 1400 rpm speed, the clothes came out practically dry. One of the few machines I found that had no bad reviews and ticked all the boxes was the Indesit PWE91472W.

Border Biscuits Bonanza

As most internet savvy surfers I enter a lot of competitions, actually far too many for the amount I actually win. Today I received one of my more surprising wins. The surprise came from a courier delivery, when I live less than a mile away, I wonder who didn't read the address!

The good housekeeping website had teamed up with Border Biscuits to offer a chance to win one of five biscuit hampers. This was in aid of Border Biscuits and Great British Bake Off finalist James Morton  having teamed up for the Big Baking Bonanza; a nationwide search for the best biscuit recipe. Competitions are nothing new on the Border Biscuit website, at the start of the year voting for a favourite biscuit netted some lucky person an Ipad.

OMG 99p Bargain Beauties

Just before Christmas last year OMG Fashions ran an offer on their website for a 99p dress. The nude dress with gold sequins and peplum detailing was a massive success with the story spreading to television, newspapers, social media and finance savvy shoppers. The site repeatedly crashed under the weight of over 100,000 shoppers; restocking 3 times and selling over 1000 of the dresses. The back lash from those unlucky enough to miss out was extreme and unnecessary, but the staff remained friendly and courteous, repeatedly explaining the limited stock issues.
