Border Biscuits Strawberry & Cream Shortbread

Well hello again from the lovely world of on-line competition entering, and I'm a winner again. Yes I'm perfectly aware a braggart isn't appealing, but I really was very surprised at this win. So I have decided to turn it into a review of sorts, centering on a single product and the quite astonishing competitions that this particular company have on a regular basis.

For those that already skipped to the pictures (or found me via google), the company is indeed Border Biscuits. A previous winner of a lovely large hamper, I still marvelled at the large box of biscuits.
The competition featured on +Facebook on the 5th of July, in support of a Scottish sports star, and involved nothing complicated. Simply commenting with the name of +Andy Murray opponent in the semi final of Wimbledon ( +Jerzy Janowicz for those pernickity people). Later that day the winners were announced, with the case of biscuits arriving mere days later.

This what I found when I opened the box; 6 packets of the gorgeous new summer flavour of Border Biscuits; Strawberry & Cream Shortbread. I found there was quite a bit of packaging with these, but with the delicate nature of shortbread it is easily deemed essential. The outer wrapper provides the airtight layer, the biscuits are sandwiched between two sturdy plastic sections, which sit inside the cardboard wrapper. The design is simple and plain, with the company name and flavour clearly displayed. The logo and images are simplistic and make it easy to identify the flavour.

The biscuits are part of the Deliciously Different range. Inspired by desserts the strawberry pieces and cream go through a slow 3 stage mixing so the texture of the dough is perfect. Asides from the genius of the dessert flavours, the strawberry and cream summarised a traditional British Summer. Reminiscent of +Wimbledon and lazy picnics, the biscuits have a lovely creamy flavour and are light and firm. The perfect amount of crumble is enhanced with the bite of fresh tasting strawberry pieces. The strawberry pieces are dehydrated strawberries, which might not be ideal for everyone's palates, but for the practical purposes of baking there is no other way. Whilst I can see them being an issue for some denture wearers the pieces are quite substantial and delicious.

They are memorable in flavour and absolutely ideal for bringing to some-one's house. Served with a cup of Tea these classy biscuits will only improve your esteem in other peoples eyes (not that this is important in our social climbing world!). They even look pretty nice on a plate with the pale colouring and chunky traditional appeal.

Now the slightly boring aspect of the packaging information, which is becoming more and more important for health conscious and nosey.
