Box of Awesome Review ~ Box 9 Competition [Ended]

Box 9 of Box of Awesome is full of lots of paper was my initial reaction, but after a quick ruffle through the pile I was actually quite impressed with the haul this time. From sweets to books, and a jumbo collection of Wheres Wally, which sent me right back to childhood! I received the Mega Box this time, and there's a competition at the end so keep reading.

First up we received a sticker sheet from Topps Cards, from the WWE Raw range. Featuring a range of wrestlers who should be know to fans of all ages, lets face it the Undertaker isn't exactly a spring chicken any more. A definite flashback to the 90's for me, and surprising that so many are still in the entertainment business.

Next on the list are collectable cards, again from Topps, this Transformers bunch came in pre-perforated sheets to celebrate the launch of the new range of collectibles. Six cards to a sheet with one being advertising, I couldn't see me being willing to pay a lot of them. I was a little disappointed that the sheets were identical, I assume that it is a starter set, but it definitely helps that Mark Wahlberg appears on two cards.

In the box is a flyer for The Future 8 awards who, in association with the Guardian, are looking for digitally savvy children and teens to enter in a wide variety of competition categories. From blogging to animation, games to music. They are giving the chance to meet experts from your chosen category. You just have to be 7- 17 year olds and able to impress them. Follow on Facebook or Twitter.

Last of all is the obligatory BOA paperwork and stickers, information on the Golden Ticket and the chance to win four LEGO Batman sets.
Cards for Swapit, the safe ebay style bidding site designed specifically for children and contains a bonus 50 points.
Happily there were also two mini packs of Haribo Tangfastic's with 8 and 9 sweets each, a far cry from a 10p bag, but that's old age for you.

Now for our Wheres Wally, extravaganza, first up book 3 in the mini book series, Wheres Wally The Fantastic Journey with a really helpful mini magnifier. The book was first published in 1989, but despite owning this one in my childhood, I still found it a mission to find anything!
An A2 Poster of Wally in a cake factory; I have found the Wizard, Waldo and Santa. Wally is still AWOL. On the back of the poster tehres a colouring section, crossword, a chance to draw your own Wheres Wally scene and information on the mini book series and postcards.

My favourite bit of the entire box has to be the Wheres Wally cut-out. Made of really thick card, and in vivid colour, he stands 6 inches by 3 (at the base) and with the support the depth is 2.5 inches. He has lived in the fridge, on the bookshelf, in a toy box, perhaps I have nothing better to do, but he makes for a great game of hide and seek.

This time around the book is by Matt Brown, Compton Valance: The most Powerful Boy In The Universe. A completely insane story of mouldy food creating a time machine and the expected havoc that ensues. Aimed at 8-10 year olds it nicely covers the energy that they require in fast paced, gross fun.

Dermot O’Leary called “funny, clever and brilliant”, Myleene Klass said was “basically perfect in every way”. As an adult I don't really see the appeal however I know many children who would be happy to progress from Horrid Henry

With the next book, Compton Valance: The Time-Travelling Sandwich Strikes Back,  planned for release in October, it should be the start of a great children's series.
